Anything? That gets in the God damned way of what you are trying to do and serves no purpose other than to piss you off? Why are they even on the damned ladders? Something from California OSHA? My old painter's 28' base and fly ladders (extension ladders) do not have them and they've worked fine for more than 75 years (belonged to my grandfather).

Can someone name a more useless add-on to a construction implement?

I've heard of platform shoes. (Had a cousin who wore them in the 70s.)
But not ladder shoes.

Is that what they wear when installing sheetrock ceilings?

Remember when you were 9 and could fall and have a split second recollection of the event and twist into whatever position you needed to soften the fall, not get hurt, and pop right up?
