You were unprepared, should have immediately taken photos of the growth-covered 45mph sign along with county documentation that the school was currently an unoccupied building, therefore technically not a school.. and presented that info to the judge.

Yup, absolutely unprepared. Just thought that the school being closed was enough to at least get the fine reduced.

You need to ask ahead of time ,before the court date , in writing , for the cops dash cam and body cam , to see if there were any construction workers present .

Cops love hanging out in empty construction zones and writing tickets because they get to collect a lot more money in a construction zone

Some CZs are marked “fines doubled when workers present” others are not. Reason being is that DOT has determined that the zone is dangerous to the motorist and other motorists. There is not provision for not obeying because no workers are present in the latter case.
You will need to have documentary evidence of which it is BEFORE going to court to do anything except asking the judge for a break because of your illness.

officers don’t collect the fines and it doesn’t go to the departments. Goes to the general fund of the jurisdiction and cannot be directly or indirectly used to fund the agency.

This is poor advise, good way to cost you extra in the long runs and in all the delays and such a good chance you will miss a date and a warrant will be issued and that will be much worse.
I have went before the judge and beat SP, County Officers, and City Police, both before and after my time as LEO. In courts in several states. Now that I think of it, it was one of each...

As a young truck driver I had a heavy foot and would get pulled over even if I was just keeping up with traffic. Truck drivers are easy prey because most cops don’t figure we will show up (most don’t bother). I always plead guilty if I was wrong, although I would ask that the charge could be changed to something that didn’t give me points on my license.
Recently I had a motorist hit me because he was on his phone in a construction zone and didn’t see the lane shift left and he went straight into the side of my trailer. Which he admitted to me. By the time the officer showed up he decided that he would say he was just driving along and I changed lanes and struck him. I got the ticket, however I went into court prepared and walked out with the charge dismissed.
Judges do not always take the side of the officer..

Well if you miss the court date , that’s on you .
And that’s exactly what the cops and courts want you to do
Just pay the money because showing up to court three times is too much trouble
And that’s why they require you to show up in court at least twice
They want it to be a pain in the neck, for you , that’s why the cop will not be there the first court date , if you want to plead not guilty , YOU are the one who has to come back again and waste another day


If the officer did not see you and wrote the ticket based on the statement of the other driver

A moving violation issued by the cop because the cop witnessed or claims to have witnessed your actions , are hard to beat In court , the judge will believe the cop 99.9999% of the time
Plus , the cop, the prosecutor and the judge all get their paychecks from the same City or county and they want the money .
You can’t get a fair hearing when they all three work for the same greedy city

When I was a trucker and got a ticket , I’d just hire a local lawyer to handle it and make sure I did not get any points
The police dept and the city just wants the money. They don’t really care about the points on your DL I less you’ve had lots of traffic convictions before

Also don’t think you can plead nolo if it’s in a school or construction zone or a superspeeder

If the ticket was for an infraction the officer witnessed it is hard, but by no means impossible to beat if the officer was in the wrong. However I’d say in 99% of officer witnessed crimes the officer observed correctly.

The assholes that report every time they see one driving the other direction are annoying.

Go to court and explain to the judge or prosecutor that there was no construction going on at that time. They may reduce it or throw it out. Can't hurt.

The system counts on all these bootlicking sheep to just pay the fine and move along. If There wasn't any construction going on and you weren't driving dangerously then there's no victim here. Hopefully the judge or prosecutor will have more sense than the cop.

Georgia is one of the few state where the driving in a construction zone applies 24/7 regardless of whether workers are present or not.

It would be too late for the cops to do much of anything except write a report and wrongly name me as a suspect.

Until you suit up everyday and spend holidays, birthdays, and weekends away from your families to serve the public no matter if they hate you or support you then you really have no room to talk.
