It does suck that they were done in by sloppy record keeping. But how many other companies are waiting to take up the slack. There's certainly no shortage of ARs in the market. Maybe Stag was better quality than others . I certainly hope so since I'm sitting on one now. But to me ARs are pretty much all the same. Sure there are different quality uppers but how much difference in quality can a lower be? On **** I can just see the smartass comments coming already. But if time and budget permits I fully intend to stick the dirt cheap PSA 9mm upper on this rifle early next year.

Stag makes/made a decent rifle. It was the first AR my father-in-law got and the first one I shot. It was no frills, but totally reliable. He said they were getting pretty big into the 3-gun world. I guess not any longer.
They were getting so big, they got into the 262 gun game. Didn't work out so well for then though.
Doesnt sound like they were doing anything nefarious. More than likely the unserialized parts were to be used in different guns

Yeah you can't play the old " When I get around to it" game with the ATF. They have zero sense of humor and even less sympathy for mistakes. Now I've met one or two field agents at gun shows and shops over the years and they were okay guys . They were happy to give you all the info you needed as far as forms and NFA tech stuff. But I'm sure the agents that co ducted the investigation in Stag were the typical DC bureaucrat power hungry A holes.
