Has the recent storms got you considering a storm shelter? We do not have a basement and I for one am seriously considering one. Seems like the Springs are getting a little stonger lately. When you see those pics it sort of rules out getting in a center room or hall for me.
For those of you that are considering one, what are you considering? Steel, fiberglass, concrete, or what? I've heard the fiberglass ones are prone to leak.
There's this one company that sells a unit that goes in your garage. They cut out a place and set it the ground and the top is flush with your floor. This one appeals to me the most. I really don't care to go running across the yard in the pouring rain or hail to get into one when the weather alert radio goes off.

my mom lives in a mobile home. behind it is a steep bank. years ago they had a guy come out and put a septic tank tank in. basically stood it up on end in the bank. put a steel door on. has worked well as a storm shelter for years. i thought it was a smart idea.

Awfully tiny though. Not much room to do anything but sit and wait out the storm. I like the idea, but I take up a lot of room by myself. :) It would be really bad if it was long term (thinking days here)

I wonder if anybody still builds root cellars? Seems to me that would be a good place to wait out a storm. Would also be useful for food storage, etc.
