When I was a kid in the 60's, TV shows always showed 1911's with oblong suppressors that twisted on with a 1/4 turn, such that the bulk fell below the barrel and nothing blocked the sights. Was that just an engineering fiction? Or maybe too difficult to make cost-effectively on a large scale?

The Osprey is a slab side suppressor. Don’t think it was around in the 60’s though.

Rotations are fine, if they allow a sight picture. Thanks, I don't have any experience with suppressors other than watching old TV shows. I'm pretty sure they were war movies or shows. It's nice to know that it can be done, even if it's not commercially practical. (I have no suppressors, I just think the science of it is interesting, and they should be 100% legal as in other countries.)

There are now slim cans too, like the Dead Air Odessa, which typically (for 9mm use) lets you see the very top of blade sights.

I have an older aac illusion 9 that is eccentric , the bulk of the can is below the bore axis and any sights work well with it. The can itself is hot garbage made of the cheapest parts AAC could cobble together in their final throws of death as they folded and got bought up…..I’m not bitter about it I swear lol
