Supervolcano Yellowstone....

That too. lol.

Its like any other mass disruptive event, people prepare for it as a fear coping mechanism, even if the probabilities are small. And then you have the escapist fantasies where the true impact isn't considered.

I don't care what they're scared of, I believe prepping for anything is prepping for everything.
You're going to eat that food and drink that water, whether it's because of a hurricane or a zombie apocalypse.
It's why the CDC made this page; http://www.cdc.gov/phpr/zombies.htm

My sisters power went out for a day and a half in the ice storm this year. You would think the world was ending they way she acted. They abandoned their house for a hotel. They lived in the house for 7 years and never once made a fire in the fireplace. She and her husband are afraid of everything and prepare for nothing. I hate it, lol.

Everything has costs. My "Prepper side of the family" (Mom) has been preppin' since the mid' eitghties. I don't even want to know how much money they have spent on expensive food and junk that they could have used have a better house or go on vacations etc. Instead they live in a run down farm house in New Mexico.

You can't prepare for everything. Somethings you can't prepare for at all. An airborne pathogen could wipe us out, or an asteroid could hit, or the Sun could go baz-zerk and sterilize the planet, etc. etc. One little thing you forgot, one mistake, or bit of bad luck and all your preppin' preparations are for naught.

All things in moderation. Some consideration is valid, but some people take things too far, to the point where it becomes an obsession, and they are enabled by all the people and companies who make an obscene profit off of their little industry of fear. The whole zombie bandwagon is a perfect example. <- This is my main beef with it and why I'm skeptical/cynical of anything where the "problem" is as manufactured as the "solution". Go read Crighton's "State of Fear" if you want an examination of how it works.
