Support bill to abolish Georgia income tax. SB-8

Impossible to compare 1913 to to the present day. Income tax was not used to fund public schools in the same way it is today. I do agree about the ineffectiveness of public education, but that's no reason to cut funding...it needs an overhaul/

No problem. If the best you can do is "I know you are but what am I", you're overmatched. Adios.

The point is there is very little correlation between spending and quality of education. I don't see a problem with an overhaul of the public education system and I am sure they can put out a better product with less funding.

I never stated that either.

I pointed out that throwing money at a problem and "hope" that you have leadership that will do the right thing isn't the answer. Mainly because over time they will corrupt each other.

Edit:
I support a overhaul of the public education system. If I had a private school nearby (35 mins one way is the closest) my kids wouldn't be in public. Oh and I actually drive my kids to their school on the other side of the county. Because it's a better ran school than the two schools we pass by on the way.

I agree Capt'n, but without an overhaul first, how will a cut in funding (education) benefit future tax paying, working Americans (students)?

THAT is a false dichotomy. It doesn't have to be one or another, and it isn't a law of nature that the current amount of funding will create poor leadership.

You really are a liberal aren't you? Every sales tax based state economy has tiered taxes (including Georgia) where basic necessities such as food are taxed at a lower rate than non-essentials. SO the lower income familie who spend the majority of their money on food would pay no more taxes. But people who spend more money on matiral goods and luxury goods would still pay MORE in taxes.

But it's nice to see that you ALWAYS carry water for the left.

I pay income tax on 85% of my income until I max out my 401k, and then 100% on of my income. So if I pay taxes later on only 70% of my income, the state better really really really jack up the sales tax/use tax rate on the non-essentials I buy if they expect to take in as much revenue without increasing the overall tax on people who pay tax on 100% of their income now and would pay taxes on 100% of their income later.... it's math, not a political philosophy ;)

Why should we continue to pay top dollar for an inferior product? If we can do better with less, shouldn't we?

I would like to do away with public schools all together and go strictly private with vouchers for the poor.

Maybe an analogy will help. If you have an old car with a poorly performing engine what do you do until you switchout the motor? Do you dump piss into the gas tank or do you continue to use gas until you can make a change? If we have an inferior product now, what do you think we will get with less $$$ to hire decent teachers. The pay our public school teachers get is deplorable, and many of them are probably worth less than they get. Until we change the educational requirements, and compensation for public school teachers, we'll continue to get a ****ty product. That's how countries like Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and the Netherlands get the scores they do. They make good money ($70-80k plus a great pension), and most have Phds! That's what our kids need.

The scend part of your argument sure may have some legs. Can't type...to much wine.

Oh I love the idea of the "fair tax" but I never see it happening. That puts the power in the peoples hands(refuse to buy when you are not happy with what the gov is doing) and we no the government loathes that idea.

Fair tax. Bad idea. If the government thinks its a good idea and let's it happen, we're screwed.
Look what happened with the Federal Reserve. We didn't need that.
