K98 rifles surrendered by germans.jpg

Most American soldiers would walk right by a K98 in search of a Luger for a souvenir. When German soldiers found American weapons most of them were not looking for a Garand of 1911, but rather an M1 carbine. I always found that interesting.

Pawpaw used to tell stories of the piles of Jap MGs and 7.7 Arizakas piled up and putting the torch to the stash on Mendenoa (spelling?) and Leyte when they were island hopping on their way to ToJos mainland! He was a cook, but his job was cooking the caves with a little flame where the holdouts were being stubborn. Said he finally got to actually run a mess 5% of the time. God bless the greatest generation of men to go handle the storm!
