The Art of HAGGLING.... is it dead?

Yes, don't be a jerk to people on here. You can be a smart a** all you want, just not a jerk. I made a comment to a guy on here about doing a trade a while back. I referenced a negative feedback I saw on his profile simply because I found it funny and nothing more; 1 negative per like 20+ positive didn't mean much to me. I thought we were going to work out a deal and I really liked what he was offering, but he called me an A-hole for bringing it up??? He was a sensitive guy I guess and maybe wasn't in the mood to laugh. SMH
Well unlike my Equifax report I try to keep my ODT Cred in the green. But I guess it's possible to run into an asshole here especially if you're around for long enough.

My only infraction point was in my first year. Some guy offered up a Phoenix Arms HP22 without anything but the one mag for $200.00 . Then he said something about jamming if you liml wristed it. So I posted up that they were $169.00 NIB on Gunbroker and cheaper than that on Southern Ohio Gun. Lesson learned. No free price checks in the comment section. But sometimes it's SO hard not to comment on stuff here. Like the $600.00 SKS I saw not long ago.

True that, when you commit, you commit. If you hesitate on a good deal, you normally miss out.

I like the haggling. only time I don't haggle is when the seller is selling at a price that is obvious that he is trying to move it. if it's a great price, i'll just pay it and know I got a good deal.

This all day long... I try to price my stuff where it will sell, If I ask $550.00 for a pistol that retails for $650.00, and you offer me $500 bucks I'll prob. take your offer. But if I put that same pistol up for $450.00, don't be a jackass and offer $350. I'm trying to move the item fast, not get a prostate exam.

I may have over-looked some other threads on this subject. Sorry if I did. But, here are some of my thoughts.

I don't know why some get pissed when you make an offer that is lower then what they are listing their item for. After all this is a "trader site", correct?

Or there is the flip side of that coin. There are probably quite a few that miss out on killer deals simply because they don't ask or make an offer.

Don't get offended by low ball offers. Simply counter with another price that's lower than your initial listing if you have room to move. (If you don't have any room to move. you may be stuck with what you have.) If you make an offer and the seller counters back at you. Then either accept that or counter yourself with a price between your original offer and the sellers counter. Trust me. you'll know when the seller isn't going to budge any more. Then you can make your decision.

If you do your due diligence and look up the item on say.. Slickguns.com and see it for $200 less and they get offended because you offered them $200.00 less than they have it listed. And they don't make a counter offer and tell you to take a hike. Then forget about the over priced Pri**k! And Move on.

But, don't over-look that a high number might just be a starting point that ends in one of the best deals you'll get in a long time! I get them like that all the time.

Haggling will NEVER die, I like haggling when I buy a Gun or accessories on ODT, I always ask if cash and Silver dollars are good, no problems yet?

Paying in Canadian quarters is the best though. They spend the same. But you get a discount if you buy them in bulk.
Only catch is...... you can only spend them 3 at a time!

Well I can honestly say that everything I've posted on here except for cars and trucks has sold for my asking price and it sold within 24 hours. Late last year I sold over 60 mini fridges within 48 hours. All but maybe 10 of them sold on here. That's because they were priced right. And when I've sold guns on here it was always below retail. Why else would anyone buy a used firearm in here?
On the flip side of that record when I jump out there with an " I'll take it" it's a good deal. I don't remember even asking anyone here if they would go lower on their goods. I just mailed a money order for one PMag in FDE ( I'm queer for Flat Dark Earth lately) and one aluminum AR mag for $20.00 shipped. That was a damn good deal. So why would I make a jerk off offer for $15.00 shipped? Basically a good deal stands out and there's no need to get greedy.
Pricing fairly to begin with is the key as far as I'm concerned. If it's something I'm looking for and I think it's priced right to begin with I just put the "I'll take it and/or send the PM and don't try to push the price lower. Many times I see something I would buy if the price was right but they have it priced so stupidly high that I don't even bother making an offer. I just have no interest in having to deal with some delusional seller who thinks his "custom package" is worth more than retail and then gets all butt hurt because I offer him way less than he's asking. I just have no way of differentiating between the delusional and those who price $200 too high just so they can come down $200 so the buyer thinks they got a deal.
At the same time I may on rare occasions offer too little on an item I don't know enough about. I traded a lot of PMs with a seller the other day for something I wanted and after I had the detail I wanted offered $1,100 instead of the $1,200 asking price. He did not accept and now I'm hoping I hadn't offended him.
I usually try to price fairly at what I want to get for the item right off the bat. I don't pad the asking price so I can come down, although sometimes I do if it doesn't sell after a while. So many buyers tend to think that the asking price must always be inflated to start with...

I can't count the number of times that I see an item I want that is overpriced IMO. I send what I think is a fair offer and the seller responds they will think about it. Then in some cases hours later, in other cases days or weeks later you watch the item get reposted and bumped over and over as the asking price goes lower and lower. Eventually their asking price matches my offer but no PM or email... I send another PM reminding them that I already offered them what they are now asking. Sometimes it works out but more often than not, the response is something like oh "I'm sorry, so and so just said they would take it and I promised to them"....
