Shortly after I got all signed up and squared away on here I noticed a thread about a guy that was going through some hard times. Someone set up a donation site for the guy. I rarely feel a compulsion to get out my wallet for strangers, but after reading the story, and some of the responses from people that knew the guy I felt moved to throw some money in the pot as well. Within a couple of hours there were tons of people giving what they could, sometimes just kind words, sometimes money - usually both. I kept an eye on it and the more I read the more sure I felt that everyones money and thoughts went to a good cause and a well deserving person. By the time I stopped paying attention there was a good chunk of change. Things are tough for everyone from time to time. It feels good to know that there are still good people out there that give a ***** about what happens. The selfish part of me took a lot more away from that feeling than the money I donated cost me. We all may be in a place where we really need each other some day. In general, the interwebs can be a nasty, heartless place - but this site has a good heart if you have the eyes to see through all the nonsense. I don't need any .22, I just wanted people to know that there are good things happening on here - not just flippers and scammers and whatever.
It has blown my mind at how people go out of there way to help fellow ODT'ers. From offers to get up in the middle of the night to go pull someone out of the snow to my own personal story of how a group of guys up around the Atlanta area was sympathetic to my lil boy not being able to shoot his 22 b/c of the ammo situation down here and sending us a brick with no strings attached. Unbelievable group of guys here (for the most part).
How coincidental. Just today after posting in the B4 CL thread I thought to myself even with all the negativity (guilty myself at times), it's pretty amazing how folks still have the generosity and enthusiasm here to do giveaways and look what the creator goes and does.
I've done a few myself over the years and while not the most bad ass or expensive items I feel they were genuinely appreciated and it felt good making a strangers (or strangers child's) day. The latest being a BB/Pellet Rifle with ammo to Vanguard up in Commerce during a brief, on the way to Greenville meet up. It was nice meeting him finally and I was able to further his latest firearm endeavor, albeit a small contribution.
Hmmm, now this has me searching the shop for another giveaway myself....
JWC was so happy to be alive after nearly getting in and witnessing a wreck right in front of him before our meet that he got out of his truck and hugged me. First time I had ever met him. But a great and very cool guy! Odt rocks
Not in, maybe it will go to somebody who needs more than I do. This has been an awesome place and met a few really cool folks, got some good deals and spent a life saving on items I didn't know I couldn't live without. Thank you ODT for keeping me broke. I mentioned something about wanting a place to shoot and got an invite from an awesome member on here to come out to his house. We spent the day blasting through a ton of ammo and having an awesome time. I hope this place is around for many years to come!
