Heck no. If I was going to drop a random grand I would have bought one of the 1911 Trump 45 pistols. I looked at them a dozen or more times just never pulled the trigger.Because you snagged them?

Do y’all recommend starting off with the standard mini 22lr. I’m finding them online for around $230.. seems like the nicer models (Pug, Bug Out, etc.) are going for $450, which is waaay more than I’m willing to do right now.

I would recommend trying to find a used Pug, black widow or bug out. They should be sub $300
PUG is my EDC and Black Widow occasionally. Just my opinion but don't waste your money on insisting on both cylinders. Buy a magnum and carry it. Although ballistically through a short barrel there's not much difference between long rifle and win mag.
