This girl needs a gun

I see you are not to far from the Live Fire range in Kingston.
Go see Jon and shoot several to see what fits you best and meets your criteria.
He keeps plenty of rentals, new pistols and used. Ammo is cheap there as well.
Great guy and he will assist you on the indoor range if you like.

Just remember to dress warm because his ventilation system keeps it a little chilly if it's cold out.
Luve Fire is great! They also have the Taurus p111 G2 for $225 out the door, great carry gun in 9mm.

Amers 81, I know this is a "Wanted to Buy" thread, but I would suggest that you narrow your search to only those makes and models that you've personally handled and dry fired at least, if not actually shot with live ammo (preferred).

When I was looking for a 9mm last year, I started out thinking I wanted a Glock. I had fired many of them, and they were OK with me. But on a whim I decided to see what else was on the market before committing. GOOD THING I DID !! I found that at least 3 other guns felt MUCH BETTER in my hand, and otherwise seemed better for me, than the Glocks.
The three better guns were: (in no particular order):
Springfield XD9 series,
S&W M&P
(not the Shield, but the medium/ full sized guns with double-stack mags), and
Ruger SR9 series.
I bought a Springfield XD-9 and really like it.

Later, I rented three other "concealed carry" semi-autos and tested them at the range, firing about 30 rounds through each.

S&W Shield: Liked it. Best feature was the flatness and carry-ability. That comes from the single-stack magazine. But as a person who often carries a 5-shot .38 revolver, the Shield still holds a couple more rounds, and shot-per-shot it has a bit more energy to deliver.

Ruger SR9-c: This compact gun was the best of all the concealed-carry-daily sized 9mm's that I've ever shot, or even handled.
It fit my hand and fingers great. The trigger was sweet. Sights were good (better than any .38 snubby revolver). I shot a tight group with it-- about 4" for all 10 shots out to 25 yards (offhand, unsupported, 2-hand stance).

SCCY- This gun had a much larger grip than I expected for a compact 9mm. The trigger pull was AWFUL. Long and hard-- and it starts out hard, and gets easier in the last few degrees of motion before it fires. That may be something I could get used to, but at first it's really awkward and unwelcome. My trigger finger had a hard time reaching up to get on the trigger for the first shot, when the trigger was fully forward on this double-action-only (DAO) gun. It was reliable, but the trigger was bad and my accuracy suffered. I had a hard time keeping all my hits on the torso of a man-sized silhouette target at 25 yards.

yeah, I've yet to personally shoot a PT111 G2, but I've owned both the first generation Pt-111 (Double Action Only) and a Taurus Millennium Pro (different trigger mechanism), and they were both excellent guns. I would definitely check out a G2 if I were in the market for a compact 9mm with a double-column magazine.

We are heading to a gun show in Cartersville right now. Thanks for the info on the guns and gun range. Sandy Springs Gun Range is just down the street from where I work. I was going to go there, but b/c of a fire, I'm not sure when they'll be reopening.

"low recoil" and " small and compact" will probably not amount to much stopping power. Many have been killed by .22 long-rifle which is "low recoil", but it's ability to "stop" a crazed perpetrator is dubious.

Somehow, a lightweight steam roller doesn't get the job done which in self defense, is "stopping the attack". Most will be deterred by simply seeing a weapon in you hand. Some will not.

A 38spl small frame revolver such as a S&W 36 or even a good "charter arms" type clone would suffice. Get some professional training regardless.

I tried a 38 and love revolvers, but had trouble firing it every time. I need to exercise my girlie hands...lol!

What part did you have a problem with? Squeezing the trigger in double action?
If so that's something that can be fixed fairly easily at least on the S&W revolvers I own.
My wife had the same problem and a Wolff spring kit for the gun fixed it for her.

Taurus millennium G2, M&P Shield, or a SCCY CPX2 are the best concealed carry guns in that price range. Of those 3 I found the G2 to be the nicest to shoot. The recoil is minimal for a 9mm
