This has to stop! Another innocent child dead due to irresponsible gun owner!

"This has to stop! "

Exactly how liberals justify infringements on the constitution every day. Is it a tragedy when innocents die? Of course. But be careful about allowing tragedy to set policy. No amount of laws can prevent stupidity so laws can only be directed against rights. Restricting access to good products in hopes of preventing misuse, abuse or stupidity is a slippery slope.

As sad as it is to say. ..this will never stop. There will ALWAYS be stupid people.

Couldn't agree more, especially the always being stupid people part!

The sad thing about this kind of tragedy is that most of them can be prevented by teaching the children a young ages 2 & up what a gun is and not to touch them. Most of these accidents happen because a child finds a gun and thinks it's a toy. I was taught when I was young. I knew not to touch or play with them. You can hide them in places you think are safe but the child may find them anyway.
Rule 1. Teach the child what a gun is and not to touch it.
Rule 2. Keep it out of reach in a safe place.

It's terrible and a tragedy.

Zero tolerance, no error ever, make no mistake are lofty goals but feasible? Are they attainable, especially when some inherent risk is associated?

The pediatric (ages below 14) accidental shootings, despite the huge rise in lawful gun ownership has actually been falling. The bulk of the drop can likely be attributed to "public education". Firearms contribute a tiny fraction of pediatric accidental deaths. Children 14-19 and some studies include up to 20 are where gun prohibitionist obtain their gun violence "numbers".

Pediatric accidental shootings will drop if guns are outlawed. However, disarmed citizens will allow violent crime, robbery, rape, murder to escalate and then the greatest threat to a free society, the government will have no threat of a checks and balance system to prevent tyranny and forceful rights violations.

So risk verses honest benefit is the critical question as well as how we can reduce this rate but not infringe upon the rights of the people. Education is the key with the expectation and knowledge that you can correct ignorance but you will NEVER fix stupid. We should never change policy based purely of the actions of a rare event allowed by stupidity.
