NWS Info...

SOUTH OF THE METRO AREA...ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHERN GEORGIA...P'TYPE
ISSUES WILL BE QUITE A BIT MORE MESSY. FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW A
NASTY WINTRY MIX OF SNOW...SLEET...FREEZING RAIN AND RAIN. AT THE
BEGINNING...A SNOW/SLEET OR RAIN/SLEET MIX IS LIKELY. AS THE
AFTERNOON/EVENING WEARS ON...MODELS ARE STRENGTHENING THE WARM NOSE
ALOFT AND THIS MEANS FREEZING RAIN WILL LIKELY MIX IN WITH ANY OTHER
P'TYPES. IN ADDITION...DO THINK AS COLD AIR WRAPS AROUND A LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE WESTERN ATLANTIC...AREAS COULD SEE A
FINISHING OF ALL SNOW.

MODEL DIFFERENCES DO ABOUND FOR THIS TIME FRAME. THE GFS IS MUCH
FASTER THAN THE REMAINING MODELS AS CLEARING OUT THE PRECIP...THUS
QPF AMOUNTS ARE LOWER. THE NAM LINGERS THE PRECIP...MUCH LIKE THE
ECMWF. THE NAM ALSO HAS THE MOST QPF...BUT WITH THIS RUN...THE EURO
HAS INCREASED ITS VALUES BY ABOUT A TENTH OF AN INCH.

Yeah - well my right testicle is telling me 3" in Forsyth County...

DM, why oh why would you post this statement? We've met and you seem like someone I could get along with so it's really difficult not to post a response like......

You sure it's talking about snow, and not it's closest neighbor?

Sorry, man I held that off as long as I could.

In the last month they've called for snow 2 different times in my area up here...1"-3". Both times....nothing....

In '93 they did the same thing. I was staying in Blairsville and we were tired of the false forecasts. So we went hunting for some sure flurries....on top of Brasstown Bald. We stayed there for an hour or so and it started coming down HARD. By the time we made it home there was already a few inches on the ground. The next morning we measured 27" in the middle of the road. Some of the drifts were 5 feet deep or more. My entire car was completely under snow. Several people died that didn't have emergency food and heat.

NEVER trust the weatherman and always be prepared.

The ground has to be froze for 2 days for it to stick.

Lol. You ain't never lived in snow country have you?

In Ohio in the winter of '90 we had ten days in a row of 15* overnight going up to 65* in the day. On that tenth night it snowed. And snowed. We woke up to 2 feet.

I swear, people down here don't understand how little a few inches of snow actually affects driving. Freaking out over a little moisture drives me nuts.

I don't care how arrogant you are. You cant drive on wet ice without chains or spikes. This is true around the globe and YES the laws of physics even affect people from up north. People from the south don't invest in a set of snow tires because we would only use them one day a year. This makes traffic VERY dangerous when it does snow/ice.

FACT: Snow and icy roads cause more fatalities yearly than any other hazards on the road.......Even for people from up north.
