Never works that way at a lane closure. Considerate people merge early in the hopes that they'll keep moving. Self absorbed pieces of shyte dirtbags think the empty lane (empty of considerate folks who've merged to a single file) is their private road and zip up 1/2 mile to the barrel constriction then expect people to stop and let them in. **** 'em. I "mean mug" them as I slow roll bumper to bumper with the next car in front of me. LOL!!!!

What the OP described is preferred in curtailing traffic. I think it's called the zipper method?

But they do not, only run to the front with no thought whatsoever for others in traffic.
