Toyota engines...

The Toyota engine graveyard...

Drivers who struggle with 5k mile oil change intervals should consider EV. Maintenance would be similar to Power wheels of their childhood.

Hey Aaron,
so what do you think about the Toyota recommended oil change every 10,000 miles? Her '16 Highlander got 0-20w Mobile 1 and filter every 10,000, went 212,000 trouble free miles before trade-in

also I got Shirley that 4 Runner a 2023 TRD Pro last November

Apparently, some people are replacing the plastic oil filter cup with an earlier production aluminum one. If you plan to do this, please use the Toyota OE filter cup.
The Chinese ones will lose the center sleeve that holds the filter element in place.
Once collapsed, the filter element restricts oil pressure and the engine will implode.

For some of the 2ZR variants, Toyota switched over to a spin-on filter during 2016 production. Replacing the filter adaptor will allow one to stop using a pipe wrench for oil filter changes. 🙂

^^^ Good Info
I have had several Toyotas
and hate those filter cups
2016 Highlander had metal
2023 4runner TRD Pro has plastic with a funky clip, and a damn huge skid plate to remove, the next oil change I'm replacing the skid plate bolts with studs for ease of installation

EDIT to add: China crap is everywhere, even in antique Harley parts, I've heard plenty of horror stories of bearing failure and parts not fitting proper

6.0 Powerstrokes had the same issue when ppl would replace the filter cap with aftermarket. Wix filters came with their own cap that works fine with a Wix filter, but it wouldn't work if you switched back to a Motorcraft filter.

The 10k interval is fine if you are a hot shot driver, but 5k is best for the rest of us.
