Travel Ideas- woman wants an adventure for her 50th

I spend a lot of time in the Lower Keys fishing every year, and have for about 20 years. The Keys are not what they used to be vacation wise. If you are looking for a cool place to sit at the bar eat and ride around on a boat every day, you'll enjoy Key West if your budget is big enough.

Since Covid, it is pretty difficult to find a place to stay anywhere near Key West for under 3-400 Night, and everything else is just as expensive.

I have taken the family to the Keys a couple of times but we don't do that anymore, its cheaper to take the family to Europe or the Caribbean.

I spend my time there fishing by myself and I usually either camp or stay with a guide buddy of mine. Even camping I pay almost 100 a night to hand a hammock. If I couldn't do that I would not spend the money to sleep there just to fish.

The beaches (what few they have) in the Keys leave a bit to be desired, it is not a beach destination.

If you like to be on the water all day fishing, snorkeling, diving, etc and have good places to eat and drink at night, its not a bad vacation spot.

I am probably a little jaded on the Keys since I spend so much time there and knew it 20 years ago, most people love it and its a "dream vacation" for them.

If you both fish, the Keys are amazing!

Besides the many beaches right here in the USA I would go back to Phuket Thailand. Beautiful beaches and water blue as a swimming pool. You may not want to leave.

That is my understanding as well. A few months ago they were requiring all visitors to have special health insurance; not sure if that is the case anymore.

CostaRicaBound, where are you moving to in CR? I have family in Alajuela.

Oops, I see you mentioned the insurance.

And I would recommend all those places, too. Especially Monteverde, Tabacón, La Fortuna, Manuel Antonio, Jacó, or Guanacaste.

(The springs are better at Tabacón, but the food is better at Baldi.)
Additional note: Jaco has become a cesspool as of the last 10 years or so. Dirty beaches, drugs, prostitution, and overall unseemly. Manuel Antonio used to be a nice spot, and I'm sure once inside the park it is still very nice, but we visited there a few years back and the area outside the park entrance was like Jaco Jr.
My wife's family owned Punta Leona, a really nice resort on the road leading down the central Pacific. Had a white sand beach and a black sand beach side-by-side, as well as something like 7,000 acres of land, about 20km from Jaco. So we were in that area a lot and have seen a lot of changes.

I love the Philippines and Thailand. Okinawa is great. If you hit Hawaii ,go to kawaii it’s beautiful.

on this side I like Jamaica and St Thomas. Azures is a crapshoot on wind and weather, I KNOW!

If your avatar means anything - Isle of Man TT Races May 28 to June 11. After you get your eyeballs blown out watching racers taking fast corners at 160+ (and sometimes with no rubber on the road) London, Ireland and Scotland are only a hop skip and jump away for some more tranquil sightseeing.

Or, Machu Picchu in the Peruvian Andes. Number 10 on the 1-10 scale for gob smacking when you are asked "and where did you go on vacation?" Better be good at walking a lot at high altitudes though.

Wherever you go, we need pics. or it didn't happen, lol. (ODT rule). And wherever you go have fun, be safe and enjoy.

BVI -- Tortola and neighboring islands -- don't know about the jab -

An adventure to really be remembered would be a mule trip to the floor of the grand canyon --
Another would be rafting down the colorado -

The painted desert, petrified forest and crater in arizona --
The redwoods in california --
Yellowstone --
A road trip around the gaspe peninsula in Quebec --
So much to see and do in the us why leave --

Ireland doesn't require a vax or recent test for entry. I've been dozens of times.
Beautiful country and very friendly people...no language problems either.
Super easy to find B&Bs
Delta flies to Dublin every day

I would go to Jeju Island in South Korea. There is some travel restrictions due to this scamdemic but there are some beautiful beaches on the island. It is starting to get a little cool in October but not super Cold just yet. There are several hotels that are world class five star with The Grand Hyatt being only one of the American companies.
