Agreed, once needed and now total BS
They were once needed in this country but not anymore imo.

I've heard that between the big 5 unions (pipefitter, millwright, boilermaker, ironworker, and electrician) that IBEW was the best to work for. I've done a short part time deal with the millwrights as a welder and they were decent people. BUT i can say this from experience, welding unions (Local 72) are impossible to get in unless you know people in high places, and even if you can weld damn good they still wont take you. Know a atleast 5 people they've turned away, they are shady to people who work through them (buddy got laid off by them and they want him to drive to ATL from rome just to put his name in the book and he doesnt even know when their open because they never answer).
Unions are nothing but a pyramid scheme, except on a grander scale. They are super bad news for business, and they suck the life out of everything they touch. But I guess union folks would rather bankrupt companies with bs compensation packages and be out of a job in 6 months, as opposed to working for a financially stable company that can afford to keep its employees around.

I've seen Unions hurt communities and bring the end to Several Companies. I've seen Union members loose almost everything they owned while on strike, while the Union Bosses and Execs still get their Salarys. Just like our Government their in it for their own advancement. They should become a thing of the Past.
I agree with not liking unions but you can soley blame them for the trillions of debt this currupt government has taken on especially just recently with the bailouts making all the "TO BIG TO FAILS" debt go from privet debt to public debt. let the free market work is what i say
