Unions are nothing but a pyramid scheme, except on a grander scale. They are super bad news for business, and they suck the life out of everything they touch. But I guess union folks would rather bankrupt companies with bs compensation packages and be out of a job in 6 months, as opposed to working for a financially stable company that can afford to keep its employees around.
Dang, I thought A.T.T. (C.W.A.), Southern Company (I.B.E.W.), G. E. (I.U.E./C.W.A) and a host of other Fortune 500 companies were pretty solvent.

You want to collective bargain with your buddy at the office fine, well funded unions on the other hand look for unconstitutional government support and trample the rights of business owners.

You named some that have had FEWER union related issues. Take a look at some of the FORMER Fortune 500 companies that got screwed by unions or had to downsize due to union bs. There are probably more non-unionized F500's than unionized F500's.

Gotta ask- it's the teachers fault, not the parents, not the student, not the constantly changing fed programs foisted upon schools, not the school boards who can't even keep a schedule longer than a year(cobb), or are downright(allegedly) corrupt- gwinnet, dekalb, atl, fulton, and had their cert taken away clayton , anda few more?

Why have you singled out teachers? My view(and no I am not a teacher and had my share of not so good ones), is that teachers are likely the least to blame in this whole mess.

I have not singled out teachers. I clearly said they were one of the problems with our educational system, not the only one. With that said, teachers are where the rubber meets the road. They are the direct link to the students in their classroom. If a teacher is there for nothing but a paycheck and are protected by their union, they turn into bad teachers and are no longer concerned with educating the students. I saw this in many teachers when I was in school a long time ago and the situation has done nothing but get worse. My daughters struggled with many of their teachers. This included ones that never taught anything (just had them read the textbook), ones that could not speak English well enough to be understood, one that simply would not speak loud enough for the majority of the class to hear him (regardless of how many times he was asked to speak louder), and ones that spent most of their time trying to indoctrinate the students to their personal views (liberal) rather than teach the curriculum, etc, etc, etc. These teachers could not be disciplined or fired because of union protection.

At the same time most of the good teachers got frustrated because it simply did not matter if they did a good job or not. They got raises just like the bad teachers for longevity rather than performance and the only way to progress through the educational system was to be a political animal, not a good teacher. Most of the good ones quit and move into areas that they can make more money in and in which their drive and integrity are rewarded rather than suppressed.

The reason I know all this is because I was a good parent and got very involved. I had to. Let me tell you though, it's hard to get a young kid to understand that they are responsible for their education for their own good when the person supplying that education obviously does not give a s**t.

Unfortunately most union workers cant see past thier own bloated paychecks and benefit packages,to see how thier organizations are helping to destroy our country and way of life. as long as they can keep rakeing it in, its all good.

Just before I went active duty in the army I was working for a construction machines leasing company. Gravy job, making about $10 an hour. I was 18 and living good. Blew the first whole check in a strip club and called in sick(hangover) the next day. Boss told me not long before I left for basic that it was too bad I wasn't staying, I could join the union and get an instant raise to $17 an hour. SEVEN BUCKS an hour for not one bit more work.

Back then I thought that was AWESOME! Now that I know better I think it's AWFUL! Unions RAPE business. And business responds by off-shoring jobs. Thus unions RAPE AMERICA. Business is in business to make money. If the unions are going to steal it, business will close up shop and leave.

A May Day rally in Los Angeles, co-sponsored by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions, reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era. Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart.
