Been with them for 14 years. Have my houses and autos insured with them along with life insurance, banking and auto loan. Tried going with them on a mortgage and it was awful. I read that the mortgage side was horrible, but tried anyway. Love them for everything else.
If your parent or relative is the primary (military service) joins and gets the insurance, then that clears the way for you (and your descendents) to join. That's how I got my membership which is open to all of their products. And my daughter has full access through my membership.
I bought a house through one of their sponsored realtors and the purchase costs were discounted with a portion refunded after the sale. Had a first-rate realtor and a great purchase experience.
so your parent has to be a customer first in order for the child to be a customer ?
I will say that for a while it was the best thing that happened to me with car insurance. BUT never get a car loan through them. I got ripped off. I thought my credit was messed up and applied and got a 12% rate. My fiance had them and had great credit and got offered the same thing. (strange right) so turns out with a regular credit union I got a a 3% rate. Their insurance is great but, seek lending through someone else or at least check options.
They operate federal regulated banking products. I financed one car through them because their rates were lower than local banks. I keep the home & auto insurance, have had checking accounts (prefer a local bank), and I maintain a credit card with them. Do you know they offer dental insurance along with their life insurance products? Bought my last new car via the USAA Car Buying Service 2 years ago and got as close to wholesale as could be had- the dealer stopped at the hold-back. I did finance the car though the auto mfg. but a few months later, USAA offered that same low rate. The car buying service often has rebates that are not associated with car dealers. I like their banking services and find them to be very pro-active protecting credit card accounts. They are a very good company and are usually in the top five (Consumer Reports) of auto insurance providers in the USA (and offer auto and other insurance to active duty military overseas). Overall, they have taken care of my family since 1923, and I'm third generation and didn't serve. My ex-wife is even a member. Since my daughter has joined, her kids can join too.
