USAA?

I started with USAA and moved to Navy Federal about 15 years ago. Much lower rates, better CS, and local branches.

They accept anyone from any branch, and DoD civilians.

Been a customer for 10 years since I joined the Army. I use them for banking, auto and home insurance, auto loan, home loan....

Tried a couple other companies because I wanted a local branch but quickly left for the horrible fees and shi*ty customer service.

USAA = Best around.....IMO

General rule about USAA: if it's available to you, USE IT. They're terrific.
I'm a member for over 25 years and my father for close to 50.
Service is second to none.
I use them for everything and do not consider anyone else for insurance.

No brick and mortar but so what. You can deposit online and they reimburse ATM fees. I have little other reason to go to the bank?

Examples:
Several years ago I called Progressive for a free quote. They ask what insurance I have, I tell them USAA, they say "Never mind, we will not come out lower"

When my father was building his retirement home he went to them for construction insurance. He was informed that the USAA policy did not cover wind damage. He told them that is what he really needed for (in Florida), and whined that this was the first time in 40 years they had told him "no". The rep said "let me talk to someone and get back to you". Two days later they called back with a policy that they had bought from another firm and resold to him, at nearly the same rate that theirs would have to cost..
-- That's service.

Thanks for the input folks. Thats what I've been hearing so far. every bank has its flaws, but ive heard 99% good things about them.

I see that many people have had great experiences doing banking and buying products.

Has anyone else had to actually settle a claim? I hope your experience was better than mine.

In my opinion, settling a claim is where the rubber meets the road. If you don't have a place which will make you happy in that situation, you don't have good insurance.

Ive taken that into consideration. Im mostly looking at banking for now. I still have insurance elsewhere and will probably keep it unless they are cheaper for the time being.

I worked for USAA in San Antonio in call center ops. Absolutely top notch company with best in class customer service and a high value/reasonable cost product line up. I've seen the company bend over backwards to help members on hundreds of occasions (even if it meant losing money), and it's a mindset that I've never really seen elsewhere. Employees have been on the phone with soldiers in active combat zones when hostile fire/explosions occur. They understand the value of that phone call and what soldiers are going through and work with stateside families to get account issues resolved. The company also hires wounded warriors and volunteers massive amounts of employee hours to help with various charitable causes.

I still bank with USAA and have credit cards with them and will not leave. ATM fees are refunded back into your account, and checks can be deposited via scanner on your computer or snapping a picture on your cell phone. The company also has excellent, top notch fair minded executives who clearly aren't in it for the money.

I had two claims on my auto insurance. Settled very quickly with no fuss, and got more than I expected for my totaled vehicle.

My auto loan has been very much trouble free.

Revolving credit repayment terms are very good - and they understand military challenges if you can't always get a payment in right on time (just call them).

Navy Fed Credit Union is a good second place contender, but they lack the breadth and depth of the insurance product line up that USAA has.

To the guy who had trouble with his claim - fair value for your vehicle is always a contentious subject. $600 is nothing to sneeze at, but within the realm of being reasonable. USAA saw something that lowered the value of your vehicle. Some companies try to pay you thousands less.
