USPS - Anybody else having trouble?

Ga Power just threatened to cut my 85 year old mother's power off with one days notice. She had mailed payment that they had not received and they had sent notices that she had not received. Thankfully we got it resolved before it happened. She lives on her own (her choice) and I would have been well and truly pissed if they had cut off her power.

The decline of a reliable mail delivery system is a certain sign of societal decay. Glad you where able to get it resolved.

Oh I would have been to. Royally Ticked off.

I guess our local Postmaster got fed up with all the complaints she'd been getting and posted up on FB. Here's what she had to say:

From our local postmistress…. Explains why the payments weren’t received…

I had a lady call the office yesterday and proceeded to use profanity and be disrespectful with me because she has not received a piece of mail and states the black carriers are stealing her stuff. To which I do not appreciate her discriminatory defamation of character towards my employees. Additionally, I have received other questions and concerns about the delay of mail. So since I know everyone does not keep up with the news or is maybe unaware that it affects them I want to update everyone on the Mail situation.

These things apply to all of the the local offices with the exception of 3 that I will list below.

1. We only get one mail truck a day. It comes to bring the mail and packages in the morning for us to deliver. We no longer get a Dispatch truck which use to pick up outgoing mail. The outgoing mail is now picked up when our morning truck comes the next business day. This means mail dropped off to go out Monday doesn’t go out until Tuesday, Tuesdays doesn’t go out until Wednesday and so forth. This will be a great inconvenience for anyone who decides to send items out on Saturday because that means it will not be picked up until next business day, which is Monday.

2. Due to the information above we can no longer guarantee OVERNIGHT express items at these local offices. If you drop a package off Monday to be delivered Tuesday we will already be failing the delivery commitment to you because the truck will not pick up items mailed out Monday until Tuesday morning.

HOWEVER- If you need overnight items you could go to La Grange, Columbus or Thomaston post office, these offices do still receive 2 trucks a day.

3. Our mail is not fully processed in Macon anymore, The mail is now sent to Palmetto, Ga which is near Atlanta. The plant has been proven to be delayed UP TO A MONTH AND A HALF to my knowledge. This does not apply to everything and we have no rhyme or reason on why some items are taking longer than others. It is similar to a Passports processing timeframe being 9-12 weeks. Some of your passports may have come in 9 weeks and some may have taken 12 weeks. Just an example. However, We are delivering items as we receive them.

4. All mail gets dispatched to Palmetto unless you hand your local item to us over the counter or drop it in the local box. This only applies if you’re dropping mail off in Waverly Hall that is destined for Waverly Hall. ( It was recently brought to my attention that a lady dropped items in our local box and my clerk sent them to the plant. I do apologize for this. They were taught a different way but due to new mail issues I have retrained them.)

5. The plant in Palmetto Ga is part of Postmaster General Dejoys, 10 year delivering for America plan. It is said to provide better processing of items for the customer. The result of this plan and delays have been publicized on News channels, search engines, and YouTube. The Postal Inspection Service has been actively investigating the plant. And the Congress has had recent meetings with the Postmaster General to address delays and his resolution for it, which can also be found online.

6. It is also district mandated that carriers are restricted from backing up 50 feet or more due to accidents, some being fatal. There was a carrier at another office that ran over a child’s bike because he couldn’t see it. There was no child on the bike but what if there was? The back up cameras on the van are not that great and we would never want to put anyone in this community in harms way which is why most carrier turn around in yard instead of backing. However, I know due to homeowners taking the time to care for their lawn, damage done to it from tires has raised some concerns. Any concerns regarding this can be brought directly to me so we can work towards a resolution.

Update! As of yesterday 5/14/2024 the Postmaster General has agreed to halt the coslidations of the plants to work on much needed improvements in service! Hopefully the mail and package processing times will improve soon!

SUGGESTIONS -

1. I recommend signing up for informed delivery if you do not have it already. You can sign up on usps.com and it will send you images of your mail that you should be EXPECTING. Those items do get scanned at the plant as they are being sorted. We do not scan those items at our office. It’s possible you may not receive an item on the day it shows up in your email. At the bottom of the application it asks that you wait up to a week before reporting it lost. That is because it is scanned at another location and because sometimes there’s a disconnect between the plants scanning your mail and us receiving it.

2. ALSO PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYTHING OF MONETARY VALUE OR TIME SENSITIVE WITHOUT A TRACKING NUMBER OR INSURANCE. We are unable to track letters. We can only track items using tracking numbers. This helps us know where your item is or if we have received it yet before being insulted and called out our names. I ACTUALLY RECOMMEND USING APPS SUCH AS CASHAPP, ZELLE, etc. to send money to your loved ones. I also recommend paying bills online or over the phone if feasible. Our blue drop box was broken into a month ago as well as other locations and the Waverly Hall Police have been investigating to find who was breaking into mailboxes. So I recommend doing this for mail delays and security.

WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY AND ALL MISDELIVERIES

I want to let everyone know that we always strive to deliver correctly and efficiently although sometimes I do know that we have failed to do that. Just for perspective, yesterday ONE of my carriers had 2,321 pieces of mail and 400 packages. With 2,321 pieces of mail sometimes regardless of efforts to ensure accuracy, an item may be misdelivered. This may be due to the carrier reading the address wrong or due to the item being out of order after sorted by the plant. If any of your mail has been misdelivered I sincerely and profusely apologize for the inconvenience. Additionally, I appreciate the people who have shown kindness and who have had the grace to allow us to fix our mistakes.

I also want to let everyone know that I am here as part of this community to help you with any concerns and fix any issues that I can. If you do believe your mail is being stolen please bring me proof of it so I can address the issue immediately.

Again, I thank you all and thank you for allowing me to be part of this community.
The people responsible for delivering the mail, who get paid to deliver the mail, who make a good living delivering the mail, who have a retirement plan better than most for delivering the mail are now recommending that you don't use the mail.
:tsk:

Apparently, UPS is retarded as well.

I've ordered some lawn equipment repair parts that are being shipped from all across the country. In every case, a weather-related delivery exception has occurred, and most items are being shipped from areas unaffected by the recent hurricanes. I've even noticed FedEx and UPS declaring the same exceptions.
