USPS

Why are we paying for such a ridiculous service in today's day and age with taxpayers money? I don't know about you, but I get very, very few actual pieces of mail today, the vast majority is junk mail, and it goes right in the recycle. My sister sends a card a couple times a year, but other than that, I get hardly any real mail.

On top of all that nonsense, they suck at actually delivering packages.

I have a package that was shipped from Easton PA via UPS on the 6th, it took less than a day to get it to Atlanta, and dropped off to the local USPS on the 6th. USPS didn't acknowledge they got it until the 9th, and its been "out for delivery" since then.

I mean can they suck any worse? I wish Trump had defunded the USPS.

It's just another money grab for the govt.

im not challenging you. have u thought that it actually arrived on the 9th? meaning it was in transit from 6th to 9th. It makes sense that if shipped on 6th, it arrives 9th. It is physically impossible to move that item to move less than a day to Atlanta. Just saying.

I have lots of experience in this field. and btw...junk mail...actually pays the usps quite a lot to be junk mail. without junk mail, mail service would be much more expensive

does this make sense?

That's not true. I've had several deliveries made within 24 hours. I ordered an ammo can 2 days after I ordered spare mags for my Sig. The ammo can came from Arizona and the mags from Illinois. The magazine shipped the same day, but sat at the local USPS for 4 days. I called and they swore they would call me back when they did. They never did but it showed up 5 days late. Meanwhile, the ammo can (I ordered around 2am) shipped the same day and arrived the next day. I've experienced this multiple times.

The snags lie within the individual locations. Some are notorious for providing bad service.

Here's an update on my latest USPS fiasco. After 4 days of no movement, it's finally scanned in to TN. So it took 4 days to move from KY to TN... Still no update on when it will be delivered to me. Should have been here the 6th.

USPS doesn't get money from the federal gov't. that's one of it's biggest problems, Congress has put burdens on it it can't afford, won't let USPS modernize itself, but doesn't want to put any money into it.

Make UPS have a depot at every crossroads in America, and guarantee delivery 6 days a week to every household in America, and see what it's service and bottom line look like.

I am a retired USPS employee. I take exception to some of your comments and agree with some others. It is best to work within the system. Trump's new Postmaster General did not set out to help the Post office in any way shape or form. A couple of hints when using the USPS. If your Town has only one outgoing truck per day(say 6pm) it does not make any difference if you mail a letter a 8am or 4pm. It will go out on the 6pm truck. If you can mail the night before even if you miss the 6 pm truck. the letter should go out the next morning with the truck that brings the morning letters flats and parcels. mail your parcels at the first class rate. Priority mail is an example of the first class rate. USPS processing centers are now smaller in number and further apart. I live in Napoleon Ohio and my mail used to go to Toledo Ohio for processing. Now, it goes to Pontiac Michigan(about 130 miles away).First class is processed first, so send it first class. If it is not necessary, do not have a package signed for. It may take a day or two longer for the recipient to get to the post office to pick up the package. And last but not least, If your letter, flat of package has stamps on it that have not been cancelled (either by machine or ball point pen), by all means reuse them. I do all the time.

Never going to get rid of the USPS unless there is a change to the constitution. Good luck with that.

Never going to be any real changes made within the USPS because of the unions, they fight everything that supports accountability. (Different subject but it’s the same with the teachers unions) Politician’s know the USPS is a money machine propped up by the taxpayer. Every bailout is loaded down with so much pork spending to support those politicians in their home districts in order to secure their vote.

Quite a few years ago there was a big push to outsource the postal system to a private company in order to bring it up to modern standards and competitiveness. Heck they even promised to keep all current employees and pay the pensions of everyone in the system active and retired. All new employees would be on a different pay scale and retirement system. Sort of Similar to what the Armed Service’s implemented with 401’s. Well you can thank the politicians and the unions for shooting that one down so you see it will never change.
