Walmart Ammo Experience

So on Monday I decided to stop at the Walmart at Hamilton Mill just on the off chance they might have some ammo on the shelf. When I went to the counter I found one box of 100cnt Winchester .380 ($38), since I have none I asked the associate to ring it up for me.


The shelves were mostly empty but there was some .223, 7.62, and .40 which I didn't need. They also had a 1200 cnt ammo can of 9mm ($497). He said he recently sold the other 1200 cnt can earlier in the day. Jeez, that's 41 cents a round, seems high for buying in a bulk quantity. I think I can by 50 round boxes for that price most places, if they have it.


When I spoke with the sales associate he said that just a few hours earlier they had 16 boxes of CCI (100 cnt) $8/box. He said it was there when he came in for his shift but when he came back from his 30 min lunch it was all gone. Seems one person just come back in multiple times an purchased all of it. I've also recently seen a post in the Ammo FS section that is coincidently selling 1600 rounds of CCI ammo for $15/box.


Most likely another ammo flipper. It's sad that the shortage continues and as long as people continue to buy up everything on the shelf to resell this will not get better anytime soon.

Sad indeed. Some peoples lives are so unfulfilling and pathetic that they have to go to Walmart and buy ammo on a regular basis, just to resell it here for a higher price.
This prolly headed out to Pasture soon....

I saw that 9mm can of 1200 at the WalMart on Chastain Road, and I thought the same as you. Seems high for 9mm. Especially for a relatively "unknown" brand (was it turkish, I think?).

Anyway, yeah, folks are still snapping it up. I admit though, I snap up "extra" for myself any time I see it because it's still so hard to find. I scored 3 boxes of .380 the other day. Last 3 on the shelf and I bought every one of them, but I was completely out and couldn't shoot my .380 when we went to the range last week. I will next time!

There was a regular group of guys hitting the Walmarts around me, might still be but I stopped in on the way to work one morning and saw one of em getting out of his car heading for the front doors so I picked up the pace and beat him to the ammo counter, his expression was priceless as I payed for the last 3 bricks of 22 on the shelf. Those 3 bricks never made it to the local pawn shop for resell.

There was a regular group of guys hitting the Walmarts around me, might still be but I stopped in on the way to work one morning and saw one of em getting out of his car heading for the front doors so I picked up the pace and beat him to the ammo counter, his expression was priceless as I payed for the last 3 bricks of 22 on the shelf. Those 3 bricks never made it to the local pawn shop for resell.

I have heard from several different walmarts that it is always the same guys that get all the 22 they get in.

I go to the same Walmart and I'm always disappointed by their ammo cabinets. I die a little inside every time I walk through the sporting goods section and see empty ammo shelves.

The ONLY time I have seen any 22 at my local WM was when a manager was back there passing it out.

It often shows in stock on ammo-can, but it is NEVER at the counter.

I think our friendly local flippers just sneak someone a bit of under the table money to ensure that this stuff never sees the light of day.

(I never will give a cent to any flipper. They are all scum-and each one deserves to be left holding the bag for overpriced ammo which no one wants.)

The non-stop crying about 22 rimfire never ceases to amaze me. When you can shoot 7.62X54r for less than .22, My advice to to leave the peashooter in the safe and start honing your centerfire rifle skills. I have bought ONE box of .22 this LAST year, got it at Dicks grand opening, for about 7 dollars for a 555 pack (free 10$ GC helped).
It's 22, it's not an ABSOLUTE necessity. if you have kids with itchy trigger fingers, there's a REALLY sweet Steel framed UZI BB gun for about 100 bucks made by GSG that doesn't even need gunpowder Wish they'd been around when I was a kid, I would have sold my own blood for such a neat "toy".

Ask yourself this:
WHY am I buying .22?
Realize the shock when your own reply is "because everyone else is, and rare things are valuable, therefore I want some even if I don't shoot much of it.

There you have your solution. Demand is high, supply is low. NOW is the time to "waste" your money on stuff that has ALWAYS been valuable, but has recently seen demand drop and supply increase. Silver is a good bet.

I've heard we have this going on here in Americus. I know for a while every time a shipment came in calls were made and ammo barely made the shelf. I have been able to catch .22 Winchester 100pks $8.
