I posted a WTB ad. I got an email saying I had a message from an ODT user by the name Alandaile. The message said “Contact Peter he has A300 Ultima 20 gauge for sale petercross446@gmail.com”. I already smelled a scam, but some ppl are more vulnerable, so I wanted to investigate. I got on ODT and the message was no longer in my inbox, so I reached out to the email address and they messaged back in less than ten minutes with pictures and to let them know if I’m interested. I still had that feeling, and after a brief search, I found the exact pictures of the gun on google from a different listing that had already been sold. Watch your backs out there fellas. The scummy scammers are everywhere!

This isn't a new scam, it's been out there for at least the last 25-30 years going back to the pre-forum days of listservs. It and a couple of similar variations are far and away the most common scam attempt we see, and we've pointed them out ad nauseum at this point.

Yep, scammers everywhere.

But our moderator staff is too busy telling us we cant say damn or **** instead of vetting new members or preventing these types of things.
We are pretty slack. This particular scammer created an account at 2:59am today, and it was 6:04am before we'd found and banned him.

I hope you toyed with them for a while.
It's really far better if you don't. They work kinda like telemarketers. Any time they get a response of any kind it's a positive one in that it shows a user base that responds and is worth targeting.
