Watch out for this scam

I posted a WTB ad. I got an email saying I had a message from an ODT user by the name Alandaile. The message said “Contact Peter he has A300 Ultima 20 gauge for sale petercross446@gmail.com”. I already smelled a scam, but some ppl are more vulnerable, so I wanted to investigate. I got on ODT and the message was no longer in my inbox, so I reached out to the email address and they messaged back in less than ten minutes with pictures and to let them know if I’m interested. I still had that feeling, and after a brief search, I found the exact pictures of the gun on google from a different listing that had already been sold. Watch your backs out there fellas. The scummy scammers are everywhere!
Yeah, BUT I can see you were a BIT tempted... lol :becky: :becky: :becky: :boink::behindsofa:

He/they hit me as well. Same username, same pm. same missing message, & same email. I was leery but reached out anyway and the price was too good to be true. Then, predicably, payment issues cropped up and I knew it was a scam. Googled his email and found this thread 😂 Here's the end of the email chain:

"If you don’t feel comfortable with the deal, it’s fine to pass, I can understand that, cause I will also feel same way if I see such about somebody I’m trying to buy something from and haven’t met them.

I did not get this from ODT but from GON. I posted WTB ads on both platforms and got an email from GON saying Peter had a Trapdoor Springfield for me. Replied instantly and kept sending emails saying "let me know if you're still interested". Sent pics and said $550 shipped and then I knew it was a scam. I said I'd only meet face to face and clearly no response.

Always deal face to face. Be smart. Never send anyone money

A good rule of thumb is ask for a picture thats easy to take but unlikely they will find on google. Such as ask them to take a pic of said item next to a magic marker or a water bottle or a shoe. Multiple times they have actually taken the time to make an awful photoshop of my ask, which was both hilarious and a good dose of karma for them to waste their time.
