We didn’t have kids and none of our nieces and nephews care about family history or anything made before the internet. Pretty much a bunch of narcissistic imbeciles that confuse the ability to google something on their phone as the same thing as having knowledge.
I believe the local law enforcement may have been loyal to the white lighteners back in the day. My father's uncle ran moonshine and apparently got tipped off anytime the Revenuers (Feds) were supposed to pay a visit.
Feds weren’t welcome then just like they aren’t welcome up here today.

Why would you have to register it?
Uncle must have had some added charges. I had a friend who pulled several tours for making shine, never pulled much more than a year, and all the time was pulled at an Air Force base, Eglin was one of them. He turned down parole , he had it so good.
That was the requirement back then. You had to register the pistol you wanted to carry. It was open carry only. The license was good for one pistol only.
