Weapons Lockboxes at secured Government facilities

If there is such a thing, where would I find the right information regarding this manner. I work at a government facility that is secured by permanent police screening. I see them tell people to put their guns in their cars or go to jail. I thought I read somewhere that a secured lockbox was required for each building.

Do I have this wrong? I searched for threads but didn't get any significant hits.
