What are you running for optics on your battle rifles?

I assume we're talking about standard AR's with an operating range out to a couple of hundred yards?

I have an Aimpoint PRO on my 'go-to' carbine, a Nikon M223 1-4x on a mid-range AR, and fixed iron sights on everything else except my precision build.

I'd like to get a variable true 1 power through 4 or maybe 6 with an illuminated reticle like the Vortex Strike Eagle but wish I could justify the expense of the Luepold Mark 4 MR/T. Okay maybe I'd like a couple of those Mark 4's...
PA has a great 1-6x

I had a Nightforce 1x4 on my AR, but decided to put it on my bolt action 300blk. I picked up a Weaver KASPA 1.5x6 for cheap at Bass Pro and figured it would be an interim optic. I have been surprisingly pleased with it. It's clear, rugged, adjustments track well and are consistent. It has an eliminated reticle and reticle come ups for the 55 grain 5.56 that are on the money. Unless it breaks, it's staying where it's at.

I don't think Bass Pro carries it anymore, but here is a link to it on Amazon.

I"ve got an Eotech 512 on one rifle, an Aimshot pro green on another and will be putting something magnified on a 308 AR shortly.

IMHO for 556 I'd stick with just a red dot. easy to use, keep both eyes open, and just look for the dot/reticle. For the 308 I'll probably go with a 1-4/6 scope. I can use the illuminated reticle with both eyes open at 1x and then if i"m shooting longer throw the magnification up and concentrate a bit more. I've played with the flip to the side stuff and it's just too much hanging out there for me.

as for the Eotech differences, there are a few main things: batteries- some models use AA, some CR123A (just a preference and what you want to stock up on, if you don't use lights with CR123A's get the AA versions). buttons- some are on the back, some are on the sides (you can still use the side ones if you have a magnifier mounted). size- the newer XPS are more compact. pretty sure they all use CR123A. haven't bothered to look but are they mounting the batteries sideways yet? I know in the past it was an issue having the batteries mounted parallel to the barrel and recoil could affect the springs over time.. I like my 512 but may sell it and move to an Aimpoint, but there's a decent price jump between them.

I'll wait and see how the new Trijicon 1x looks as well..

I have a eotech EXPS on my 300blk pistol and 5.56 carbine. For me nothing compares to eotechs. It's not just a red dot It's a holographic sight that projects it image on the target. That makes shooting with both eyes open feel much more natural for me than a red dot. Also they magnify well.
