What did you neglect in your preps?

How did you know it was fake? what was the difference?
there were differences in the appearance of the plastic case....slight, after going to the Baofeng site, I could see differences in the cases....radios at the REAL site were much more expensive.....OH!!! and now I remember...there were also differences in the battery....coming back to me now.....I would have to think that most anything on Amazon is a China copy....results may vary

Ponchos.

Everything else was good to go. At least 30 gallons of spring and distilled water on hand. Genny was ready to rock. Never needed either thankfully.

List so far...double the fuel and propane (I picked up a 250 gallon tank last month that needs filling), rechargeable fans, and camping hammocks. It's been cooler outside than in.

Things to do is pole saw and leaf blower need carb rebuilds or replacement but I knew that.

I have to think at least some of the folks in the hard hit areas were prepping types. No how well prepped you are if all your stuff is under 7’ of mud it isn’t going to help. I view the extent of the damage there almost incredible and don’t fault folks for not seeing it coming. The normalcy bias hits us all and is hard to fight. Multiple storage locations may be on my mind in the future.
We were fortunate, our biggest problem was a slight roof leak and 6 hours without power, easily rectified by hooking the genny to the refrigerator.
From an arm chair quarter back view if my stuff wasn’t covered in mud, water would have been the primary problem. Going to pick up several more cases at Sam’s next visit. Should water be a longer term problem we have numerous life straws and a larger filtration unit. Regardless of duration, we only operate a small generator and power the freezer, refrigerator and Wi-FI router. We have a battery back up on the router which also cleans the power. It serves as a charging port as well.
My prayers for all on this forum who have been hit hard. I think if this one teaches us anything it would be we shouldn’t count on anyone coming to help.

Let myself run low on gas for the generator. Hadn't test run it in two years, ran it dry before storage. Regular pump gas was 2 years old, but had Stabil added when put up, genny cranked on 2nd pull.
Need an inverter generator for newer electronic appliances, and more gas stored.
What did work, a bunch of battery powered led lanterns and two Ryobi one+ battery fans. Opened the doors and windows, turned a fan on each of us, stayed reasonably cool.

I have a whole home genny now and it runs on propane..My plans in the next year are to have a 1,000 gal underground propane to be installed. I have a 4kw I used with remote start and the three things I always did was keep it on a battery tender, when I shut it off I turned off the fuel feed line and let it run out of gas...The last thing was to only use ethanol free, sta-bil treated. I keep it to help those I care about..

Well..that nice Honda generator that I thought was gtg..not so much. Evidently I mixed up my gas cans…and put that dreaded d@#### Ethanol gas in it last winter :(. Went to crank it & test it Wednesday night & it would only run on the choke. Looked at the gas & smelled it…it was rotten & I knew immediately what I’d done. Damage was done..carb is F@kd. Gummed up like taffy in it. Luckily we only went 2 days without power & I had plenty of water saved, ice, and a couple of 12V marine batteries to power lights & a 12V fan. We are on a well..so we had about 4 days supply of drinking/washing water. I can’t imagine what these people are going to be going through, with No power or comms for weeks. Prayers to them!

I loaned my Honda Harmony tiller out to one of my girlfriends years ago and it was a 4 stroke. I told her to only us ethanol free gas...Welp she did not and it gummed up the carb, I ordered a kit and went through the carb...No good had to order a complete carb for it..Needless to say she is not welcome to borrow any of my stuff....Another lesson learned,,,

I need to get my back up power hooked up to the house.

Thinking about ordering one of these "FloJak" pumps or similar as my wells standing water is about 30ft, so I regular pump doesn't work. Once I get those 2 things buttoned up, I should be GTG. Theoretically anyway.
