Used to be this time of year turkey shoots where being put on everywhere. Churchs, civic groups and VFW's always had them but these days they seem to be few and far between.
When I was a little kid I used to think that everybody just shot the turkeys right then and there. Didn't seem very sporting to me .

My local post are all Civil War vets, only thing they're sponsoring are prune races. The American Legion in Statham had one last Saturday
Everyone needs to start posting where and when the shoots are. They still have one at the church across from Charlie's store on hwy 166, at the Douglas/Fulton line, on the Fulton side of the river. That one has been around as far back as I can remember. I've shot that one many times, but haven't done it in a couple years.
They had a turkey shoot at the Elk lodge in Cartersville last week. A friend of mine took his 11 year old daughter and she won a turkey. She is now hooked on shooting and wants a 20 gauge for Christmas!
Turkey shoots are fun.
