What has happened to ODT?

DIANA EWING.png

ODT started on May 16, 2010. All you have to do is look at my profile and Okuma's for the join date. We were the first two members. No, it was not something different prior to that. What happened was Okuma and I were active users of GON swap and sell section, then one weekend they shut it down. We were like kid's on crack, needing that next trade, and went through withdrawal symptoms over that weekend. When GON finally came back on line, they were charging for every listing....every member including ourselves were pissed off.

So we decided to start our own, I think we had it up and running in less than 2 days and rest is history.
1st 1,000 members was by June 27, 2010...

Has anyone noticed that it has become like FB marketplace? People send a PM make an offer and then never respond back or will never set up a meet. Over the last year I have either been stood up, cancelled at last minute, or just never set a meeting. I haven’t had this trouble until the last year or so. Also items sit for far longer now. Do y’all think that the No interest pay in 4 stuff has hurt private sales?
To answer this question, we can't do anything about the lack of integrity, compulsiveness, flakiness and overall societal decline of the new generations. Best we can do is provide a good feedback system, which Okuma Okuma has done (I think the best anywhere around and I frequent a lot of forums) that helps you identify those bad actors.

As for items not selling, people are cash strapped. I sell a fair amount of items on ODT, and also work inside the industry and I can use my own private sales here as a very good predictor and indicator of market conditions.

It was part of GON before 2010 I believe.
Nope.

Many (Most?) of the users were on GON, but GON decided that the gun buy/sell/trade portion was getting too big and was too much of a PITA so they came down heavily on the traders and limited things. I think Steve saw the writing on the wall and the unmet opportunity and set up ODT. I remember him messaging me to let me know about the new site. I held off for a little bit, but fairly quickly came over.

I think people are struggling a lot more financially these days. Thats put a hurt on odt and really everything else. I've seen a lot more "junk" type stuff posted on the site recently, not to say its bad gear just a lot of older stuff thats been collecting dust. Seems people are trying to make any little bit of money they can. I've also dealt with people messaging me about items and then just up and dissappear on me, so I feel your pain unfortunately even some users that have been on the site a long time with lots of feedback. Ive used the ignore tab more than id like to admit recently🙃

ODT is AWESOME !!
All the other forums I ever been on sucked so bad , I think a tennis ball would go through a garden hose if hooked up to them !!
The whole thing boils down to this : ODT is pretty darn cool and it is a great place to buy, sell, trade and for us knuckleheaded gun and outdoor freaks to socialize !!
If you don’t like it, tough tiddy - move on !! I’m sure you won’t be missed .
I think a majority of the folks around here would agree with me.
