What is something essential to your survival/bugout kit?

How long are you bugging out for and are you going to a designated location:

-Water Filter Device
-1st Air Kit
-Fire Starter
-50/50 Burn Cord
- A Good knife
- Light Weight Rain Poncho, can be Used for rain, bed, or cover
- Zip lock bags for many uses
- Duck Tape
-Flash light.

I think I would just carry enough for 72 hours. I haven't put that much thought into it but yes I would treka few miles down the road to my friends 60 acre land which happens to have a nice stream :D

I would of never thought to bring some heavy duty trash bags.

Also a few questions:

1. What kind of fire starter are you using? I found some storm-proof matches but I am thinking about getting a striker type starter.
2.How much energy bars do you normally carry in your primary?

That is an extensive list. I have much of that in my bug out bag although my real bug out bag is a 35 foot 5th wheel RV. Not nearly as much as my get home bag but then I am not on the road as I once was.
I'm on the road a lot and all over Metro Atlanta and the North Georgia area. This is my Get Home Bag. It's meant to give me everything I need other than water for six days of foot travel in any weather and without my health deteriorating from the travel. I want to get home in better shape than when I started the trip.

Pack light, you can move much faster/farther with less load.

Shelter:
USGI Poncho
USGI Poncho liner (woobie)
Paracord

Water:
Aluminum bottle and cup
Iodine tablets
Lifestraw or Sawyer mini water filter

Fire:
Lighter
Fire tinder (vasoline soaked dryer lint works well)
Firesteel
Fixed blade knife
Fresnel lens

Food:
Protein/energy bars
Mountain house meals

Signalling:
Small mirror
Road flares

First aid:
Small IFAK
2x TQ
Meds (Tylenol/ibuprophen, immodium, Pepto)
Wet wipes

Defense:
Spare pistol mags w/ carrier
Carbine that takes same pistol mags (ie. Sub2k) [optional]

Magnesium and flint combo & a container of pre shaved magnesium (I shave after building a fire for the next fires) also a 4inch long 1/2 inch diameter flint rod — 5000° Is hard to beat but with no extremes I use a Bic lighter more

I also have medium and fine diamond sharpening plates with the knives — There are actually 2 in the backpack and 1 in the duffel bag

There’s also a mini roll of gorilla tape in the duffel bag and probably two or three more contractor bags

6 energy bars in the backpack & 12 in the duffel bag

The trashbags can be used as a rain jacket Gear cover - water collector - A ground cloth - shelter - You can also put your backpacks in them and make yourself look transient and of no importance or value as you travel (nothing says target like a digicam backpack) - would come in useful if you were scavenging - great to cachet items you wish to leave for later

100lbs clear fishing string & string pops make a nice trip line or trip alarm. My biggest concern if i'm having to hoof it back home is having to sleep in strange places. So it's important to me to know that I won't get surprised & possibly robbed after I hunker down for the night.
