If you don't find the info. you need on here just wait a couple of days. Now that it's posted in a public domain your friendly local BATF and E agent will be along to "help" you out. LOL Oh, and he will probably want to give you advice on any other firearms etc. you have as well . (j/k of course).

It should have some markings somewhere on it. If it's a Volunteer Arms, it's a semi auto that fires from a closed bolt and its fine.

If by some chance it's one of the older Spitfire Carbines on the other hand, it's illegal. The Spitfires fired from an open bolt and were banned as being readily convertible to full auto.

Spitfire/Eagle has a tubular receiver. His rifle however does have an older Spitfire/Eagle type vertical foregrip, so it's certainly an older model or someone has installed it. I've not seen one with the plate/two screens. Volunteer did make some early (and grandfathered) open bolt semi's but all of those to my knowledge are tubular receivers as well.

Also, the later/typical Volunteer Arms guns don't have the roll pins in the lower like his does. Lower looks like an older Spitfire now that i look at it more.

If I had to guess without seeing more pictures, it's a very early square receiver copy of the Spitfire/Eagle/Apache carbines. Also possible someone did a frankenrifle and put this together from a combination of Volunteer and earlier parts.

It's interesting, I'll say that.
