what kind of spider is this?

A couple of weeks ago I get a frantic phone call from the wife about the giant spider on the front of the house. I assumed it was a small grass spider that we have all over the yard out here. (north Alabama a few miles from Tennessee line)
got out of the truck and went over and found this on the wall. these are standard size bricks for size comparison. the spider was oddly colored and had hairs all over it. looks like a tarantula with the hair and body shape, but pretty sure they aren't native here.
my guess is someone's pet that was turned out, but I could be completely wrong.

Anyone know what type of spider this was?

That's a B.A.S.(big ass spider) and as long as it don't B.I.T.E. you should leave it the H.E.L.L.alone...It eats other things we don't like, that do bite. Hehe

It is some variety of Orb weaving spider. Yes they are creepy, but the intricate webs they make are beautiful.
