What machine gun would you purchase if NFA repealed?

I've had an SWD M/11-9 submachine gun for 30 years,
so if the NFA were repealed, I think I'd go with an automatic rifle.
A real rifle caliber, fixed stock, standard length barrel.
Probably an M16 A1 (I already have the semi auto version of that).
Assuming the price of that would stabilize down to pretty close to what the current SEMI
AR15's sell for. Under $2000.

If .30 caliber / 7.62 x 51 belt fed machineguns were relatively cheap, plentiful, and easy to get repaired by any gunsmith with a standard FFL and no SOT,

THEN I predict more shooting ranges would have "rental guns" of that kind.

I'd like to find an outdoor range and rent a belt fed MG and use it on several sheets of drywall or
sheet metal roofing panels.

Swedish K...shot a friend's and it was love at first burst.

None . I was issues one on my SWAT team . Waste of ammo . You can shoot as fast and accurate with a semi auto as an automatic.
Actually, you can't shoot quite as fast so you're much more accurate with a semi-auto.

I'd go with the old M-60. Plenty of firepower, best when two man crew-served, but does well with just the gunner and, if you really need to, you can pick it up and keep shooting. (Rambo!)

It's also what I know.
