What was your first gun you ever purchased?

SKS for me, I remember driving forever trying to find a store, pawn shop, ect.... looking for an AK47. Finally gave up and bought a Chinese SKS.

Ended up losing it along with all my other guns years later with a house fire. Barrels were bent from the extreme heat so couldn't salvage anything.

I remember the guy looking up surprised of my question and asked jokingly if I was planning to shoot anyone.

This was back in 2000.

It was either 92 or 93 (edit- it was 1991) I bought four Yugo SKS’s, with a case of ammo each, at a gun show for $150 each. I kept two, for two years, and sold just the rifles for $500 each. The other two I kept until 1997, and sold those for $1000 each. They were all new issue, still packed in the cosmoline, or whatever the commie equivalent was.

SW 686 no dash 6 inch in 85 i believe. I think it was around $260. Purchased at the great Wilson's Department/Hardware/Gun store in Lavonia. Man, I loved that place. I still remember they had a buckskin shirt thing with frills hanging from the sleeves that I used to lust after every time I walked in the store. That's one purchase I'm glad I DIDN'T make. OTOH, they had a Winchester M61 Magnum for under $400 that I'm still kicking myself for not buying.

Mine was a Glenfield/Marlin I believe 22. $69 at Roses or Big G in Decatur Al in 78. Main reason I bought it was because I had a pick up with a gun rack but no rifle for it. First handgun was a Smith mod 29 from Franklin’s in Athens in 93. Still have both.

I bought a 29 from Franklins a year or two earlier at one of their cost sales-about three bills, IIRC. Ended up trading it for something that didn't kick like a mule but wish I'd just kept it and paid the guy cash for the gun I traded it for.

Bought a Ruger 10/22 the day I turned 18 it was 99.00 I still have it and still enjoy shooting it after 38 years

1988 JM marlin 30/30 that I still have and use often. It’s still even has the front hood over the iron sight.

In 1959-60 I bought a Remington Nylon 66 at the Army/Navy Surplus in Chillicothe, MO. I had just sold a pig at the auction and I had around $35 burning a hole in my pocket. One of the best .22 rifles I ever owned.
Don't ask me about the best purchase I ever made...!
