Whats the best self defense carry?

i like the 19's in size but prefer a 40 or 45 in caliber 9mm just is to small no offense deff a man stopper with the right ammo but 45 ball ammo works just as well ya know

maybe a 23
Agreed, whether ball or hp, one round will put a man in the dirt regardless of where you hit him. However 40 has the power of a 45 but the capacity of a 9, it's a fabulous caliber. Only people that can survive a 45 is superman, and wolverine. It's also good practice to switch carry platforms every so many days, as p90x has proven muscle confusion works. Therefore, I say get a hi point 45, most reliable gun on the market.

its the lack of rounds for sure dont get me wrong i love a wheel gun as much as the next guy but for self defense they are just obsolete

I hate to get off topic and talk about firearms in this thread but seriously? Dont get me wrong I carry a Glock 19 most of the time but i would never feel undergunned with my obsolete 3" S&W model 65.

This is also my theory on the .40 and the reason that I carry it. I don't get why people put it down like a red headed step child, you get the best of both worlds. My XDm .40 is the most accurate pistol I have ever shot and I highly recommend it! It's a large framed pistol but it doesn't bother me to carry it. I hate a Glock, I do understand why people love them but I just can't hit jack with it!
So my suggestion would be an XDm 3.8 Compact in .40. Mine are both full size and carry fine with me but you stated earlier you were a smaller framed guy
