Where did I go wrong?

I have already found out what a GM makes at Moe's. Yeah 60 hr work week to get paid just above the poverty line.

Ive hired several people out of the military. All 3 worked for me several months without letting me know what was going on in the background. 2 got disability and didn't show back up, I had to call one of their friends to find out. And the other redeployed. All three did come off very strong during the interview and had my assitant interviewed them she would have thought they were arrogant or pushy and turned them away. I like the confidence and work ethics I seen right off the bat. With that being said, they all 3 were excellent workers and I would hire another applicant any day with military background. but without experience everyone starts at the bottom. But the drive they had, they advanced quickly in rank but pay is minimal. I started working for my company(it's a restaurant) in 1999. I have moved up to area supervisor now and make excellent money, my wife has not worked in 7 years. I'm sure moes has the same opportunities but its a long hard road. Degrees don't mean anything in food service unless its fancy places. And all this time I've been slowly working on a degree in audio production and running a small studio at my house. But I realize the chance that degree will take me away from my current job is minimal. I just love music and want to know everything about it. Just shoot for what you want and keep working to the top in whatever you do. Not sure if I helped or hindered you in any way, just was giving my opinion.

You haven't gone wrong, You just haven't got there yet. I went to work right out of high school, and I was darn lucky to even get a diploma, I worked in the welding field for 9 years and made alot of friends over the nine years, I then went to work in the plastic molding industry in the maint dept, I got that job because a friend at the first job who had left hired me there, NETWORKED my way into that job. Worked there 8 more years, When I left that job I was making 60k plus a year, I then bought a shop from a guy who was retiring and it was in the welding field, I wont elaborate into what I make now but my point is keep forging ahead always look up and NETWORK with the higher ups where ever you go. I am 41 and didn't step into this shop until I was 35, you have plenty of time and alot can and will happen in 5 years. PM me a link to your resume and I will see what I can do for you. Are you willing to relocate?

+1
You will find that in the long run the degrees weren't the waste of time and money you thought they were if you get a long term employment that uses those skills. Neither is keeping your nose clean or the military service.
You will find that if you keep your nose to the grindstone that doors will open and your education and experience will lead to climbing the ladder much more quickly than those without.
It sounds like your education, skills would be perfect for law enforcement preferably at one of the federal alphabet agencies. Keep applying for a better job even after you have one.
Godspeed to you

It's a tough job to get, but Smyrna PD is hiring. Lt. Harvey is a great guy that does all the recruiting and hiring.

Nobody is going to take you by the hand. You have to take charge and make it happen. Earn your blood stripe in the real world. Work on a can do attitude. Prove you are a results person, not a whiner or an It's not my job person. If you have the wrong attitude, you will sabotage yourself everytime. Moe's may not pay what you want, but if you use them to learn as much as you can, you can use them as a stepping stone. I don't mean learn how to make a cheese sandwich, learn the customer service method, the business model, and anything else that makes them successful. Every day you go to work, make it a positive experience. Go home and develop a lead. Don't rely on job boards, newspapers, or the DOL. Read job search books. Ignore the rubbish and take the rest and try to make it work for you. Look for industry specific organizations.

Contact Bradley Morris ( I can give you a contact there if you need it). They are a recruiting firm that only places former military guys. We have used them in the past to hire and they do a great job of marketing their candidates. Also, making 7.15 at moe's is crazy, we pay our temp workforce more than that. Manufacturing is hiring like crazy right now. In the past year my company alone has hired 100 new employees, 15 of those being in management. If you had any supervisory or manufacturing experience I would give you a shot at an interview.
