I know it's Vice, ZOMG guns are bad, but there the only one's who have a decent video about the firearms made in the Philippines.

So, the firearms made by guys in a wooden shack are somehow a reflection of the corporations that build firearms within the same country?

Interesting conclusion.

I'd go with the RIA if I had the choice. Rather have a Citadel which is a slightly better version of the RIA but it cost pretty much the same. Good luck.

I understand your thought process. I am a little old school I guess to because I was in the Army when the 1911 was the standard sidearm issued and, during the transition to the Beretta M9 in the mid to late 80's, so I feel the 1911, being proven for more than 100 years is a fine self defense weapon. I guess that's why they make so many different kinds. Great comment though and I do like other peoples insight or I would not have asked the question.

More Food for thought: Do you think polymer started being used for pistols as a cost saving measure? or do you think of it as a great scientific discovery that someone found for the sake of manufacturing Firearms? I understand they all have their benefits like stress fractures in steel, and expansion in polymer but, I tend to lean toward that chunk of steel in the hand. Maybe old fashioned but both modern plastic pistols and old style Steel Framed guns have their benefits. I have both and don't discriminate against either. as long as it goes Bang "EVERY TIME" I pull the trigger, to me it's a good gun.

For a carry gun I would probably stick to a polymer as well over a budget 1911 (or any 1911 for that matter). You can't argue with the relability of a Glock. Protective Measures in another thread mentioned that many elite special ops guys and well known instructors carry a Glock 17 or 19. I think a nice 1911 is fine for the range, but for something you plan on EDC, polymer is the way to go. So, I guess my suggestion is to list both and buy a Glock... :)

So what makes a 1911, a budget 1911. Is it the price, the quality of the build, the fit and finish, or just the name brand on the slide? I held many top name brands next to so called budget 1911's and cant see much of a difference with the naked eye. Even broke one down side by side and there was little to no difference. I do mean broke it down all the way too. In fact the parts were interchangeable. At least they were with the ones we compared.

To albatros43, I would like to know where you get your information on "elite special ops" guys because I happen to know a couple Rangers, Airborne, and Special Forces guys who say different. As a matter of fact, my son-in-law who is graduating from SF Training at Bragg on Thursday, told me he does not like Glocks. I will admit that when he fired my G17 he was very accurate with it so, admittedly Glocks like him, LOL. Anyway, My personal information tells me that they Prefer the 1911 platform. You might be talking about civilian Special Ops Guys, in Law enforcement so I can understand your perspective.

Thanks for your input All.
