Make more sense behind a hidden door - maybe look like a medicine cabinet?

Probably someone built a bathroom in what used a hallway/stairs. Hopefully, they made those drawers pull out into steps.

Pretty common in old houses for attic access. Much prefer those over the crappy folding ones or just a hole in the hallway ceiling.
