who's been to Germany?

Probably going for about two weeks. Mainly to see the WWII stuff and go to different concentrations camps in Europe. I wanted to fly into Berlin or Munich to see the stuff there, and go to poland, austria, etc to see the sights.

Ah! The Jewish tour. *shudder*

I was always more interested in the Medieval history and did castle tours. Seeing arhery slits and stone stairs worn down from hundreds of years of feet was more fascinating to me.

Nice. Drink a dunkel at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich for me.

I just like WWII, never been into the concentration camp thing, but the wife wants to see Dachau and Auschwitz, Probably Ardennes and stuff like that

Went to Dachau while in the army. We did fast water training on the Danau canal in Ingolstadt and took a day trip to Dachau. It's been years but all I remember seeing of it was a War History museum with mostly suits of armor and period weapons. Oh! I just looked at the Dachau Memorial site and I see that the Concentration Camp memorial exhibit was built between 1996 and 2003. I left Germany in 1987-88 time frame.

Sometimes I wish I went active duty, been then I remember how good the reserves has been to me. It would be nice to go to Germany for free, but its one country ive always wanted to vacation in. That and Japan and UK

The one beer I have never found after leaving Germany was calld a Dampfbier. Of all the beers in Germany that I tried that was my favorite. And damn a Weissen. Also Pilsener (Pilz) is German domestic(not for export) beer. What they send us is called "Export" So when in country drink only pilz. One other beer that impressed me was Lowenbrau Pilz. Prounounced Loovenbroy and roll the R.

Germany is filled woth happy history as well as the WWII history. Do keep in mind that they are( or at least were) rather sensitive about their national part in WWII.
