Why did this timing belt fail at only 60k miles?

Man, you gotta get a report back from him on your old head! We gots to know!

He took one look at it and said that all of the exhaust valves were bent above the guides. Not enough to see at first but enough that they wouldn't seat properly. I think I made the right call with a whole new head
 
Thought engine manufacturers corrected the valve trashing issue with timing belt failures

Not really an issue that can be easily fixed. To make good power out of a 4cyl you need high compression and high valve lift/duration. That means the pistons and valves need to take turns being in the same place.
