Why don't we have a landfill in Henry Co?

Look up who owns the big trash/waste companies. It is one heck of a business model, no inventory to handle, charge whatever you want, and just walk away from projects where there is no money to be made. Any company, county, or organization that refuses to pay the price to have their trash handled, soon has a mountain of trash of their very own.

My trash bill just went up cuz they arent' able to dump at Clayton anymore. It seems really ridiculous to me that there is not another local landfill.

Drive up I675 and you will see why nobody wants a landfill within 20 miles of them. That absurd 200' tall mountain of crap at I675&I285 is an abomination. They should have stopped filling it a decade ago.

I bet they received a million + dollar grant to put solar panels on that mountain of trash and it's probably being hailed as some kind of modern wonder...one of the things you see when you fly into town - nice first impression, huh?

Pretty simple, the EPA rules governing land fills along with the liabilities associated with waste containment makes it cost prohibited.

You do have landfills all around. Waste from transformers, Fort Gillem, Atlanta airport, general development and manufacturing around Atlanta over the years is buried throughout most metro Atlanta counties. You just need to dig to find them. Hell, you might not have to drive anywhere, you could be living on one right now! How's that for convenience!

Got a 25x30’ bricked shop Im tearing down this year cuz some da put it on top of a trash pit. Probably wouldnt have a trash pit if we had more places to dump. Then again, builders will be builders.

I would call Spaulding Co and see if you can use theirs. I'm glad there's no landfill in HC anymore. The smell on 675 @ 285 is not worth it.

Spaulding is resident only. Pop lives down there and I can use him to smuggle it but thats a long drive. Probably my only option though.

I just thought with CC closing to HC resident then Spaulding would open to us but heck if not we are gonna see a ton of dump spots on the sides of back roads.
