why people would rather see their old cars rot than sell em

If I had a teacher like that, I probably wouldn't be so poor today?

Did your buddy learn anything?

BTW..what kind of old bottle sells for 200$?

What if he had thought the car was some ultra rare combination but was wrong and couldn't get his money back. Would the seller be "taking advantage" of his mistake to have took the 40M?

I don't think the op was railing against capitalism. There is a big difference between making a profit and taking advantage of people.

I agree. But I've yet to see any examples of anyone being taken advantage of in this thread. Tell someone you are going to build a deck out of 2x6 pressure treated wood and then you use 2x4 yellow pine is screwing someone over. Buying a car (or anything else) for an agreed upon price and then reselling it for a profit is not in any fashion, taking "advantage" of someone. This kind of thinking is right out of the pit of Bernie sanders and socialism 101. It's frigging ridiculous.

That should never be able to happen. In a perfect world the local authorities wouldn't allow someone to keep an old junky car in their yard to start with.
