work issue

How bad do you need the job? If you have already taken it to upper management and been given the brush off I don't know that taking it any higher is a great idea... unless you have disposable income. A company will fire a squeaky wheel 4.73 times faster than an incompetent or lazy employ(please note, this statistic is completely made up but probably close)

And unless you have filed a complaint with the DOL, you are less likey to be protected from retribution (Not that retribution could or would occur, but having a complaint filed with DOL helps in a case like this if you think it might occur).

ETA: It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a coversation with corporate HR and keep documention of time/date/communication; It's another avenue to help protect from retribution or wrongful unemployment (but depending upon how your corporate office does business, documented communication with HR /and or a DOL complaint may still not help if they want to play dirty pool)

Whether you can get this employer to do anything or not, get the Snap-On rep to give you an appraisal for the damaged toolbox. At least that will let you document the loss in value to your employer.

They should stand up and fix their damage.

If they don't it tells you something important about the level of character of those guys. If they want to dick you over on stuff like this, they wouldn't mind ****ing you when it is something more important.

Wonder if you could at least claim that loss on taxes or something? Crappy situation regardless.

They pretty much have made you aware of your value to them and what is ultimately more important . Take note and spend more time looking for a new employer rather than a new tool box . You already have tools you don't need to work for one as well

I read all the post. Very helpful. Now I see what my options are.
So, there's nothing i can do legally to them.

Agree, it does show the character of the people/company.

Yea that blows my snap on box set me back $11,000.00(for those that don't know that is just for an empty tool box) I would not take that damage lying down. I am proud of my box and take care of it. They should have shop insurance that should cover your tools In situations like this. If the shop owner doesn't carry enough insurance then you might as well look for a new job.

That blows man! Sorry to hear. I agree with others, there's not much more you can do. I've heard sometimes the squeaky wheel gets replaced. A couple years ago my shop wanted a universal look to the shop floor and they bought three bay boxes with hutches and side cabinets for every bay in the shop. And tables between the boxes. All Snap-on. 30+ boxes.
If I were you, I'd look into trading the box in and get another box and job. Take it as a learning experience and lesson learned. Most auto companies are like that now. They will spend a ton of money and bend over backwards for a customer but will only bend over employees.

admittedly ignorant question here but ...what kind of money are we talking about. Maybe I have no appreciation for this but seems like a non-issue. Does it still function? If yes, move on. Not saying they shouldn't have done right by you but is this really worth making a huge deal over and giving yourself a bad name with the company. Your call.
