These things are awesome! I don't even bother with using my wet stones anymore. I took one of my dad's knives from dull as hell to shaving sharp in about 10 minutes. Be sure to keep some water with you when you use these, as they can heat up the blade pretty quick.
I’m no expert, and please correct me if I’m wrong (we are all here to learn and share) but, I’m pretty sure if you are heating the blade up hot enough that you feel the need to cool it with water, then you should make some adjustments to your process.
You’re not going to want to heat up the blade and then cool it rapidly.
You should be taking off a lot less material and/or not holding the edge on the belt as long to avoid creating all that heat.
