Working out

what science do you have to back that claim that my immune system is compromised by eating animal protein? If were talking processed junkstore meat, I might agree... but then were not talking the meat, were talking preservatives and additives and garbage.

too much greenstuff without heavy variation can cause an excess of Phytates and Lectins.
I cant argue with a Diet of Fish, variety of fruits veggies, if youre avoiding grains/sugars and inflammatory seed oils.

But if you want to get into the Biochemistry of it, youll find really quick that most of the garbage that the Govt recommends is not based on science at all.

My wife is a patient of a world renowed immunologist, and that was his recommendation. I don't have articles from medical journals with studies and the like, but I trust his professional assessment. Yes processed meats are probably the worst, followed by grilled meat. I'm guilty of eating my weight in sashimi once every couple months or so ;), but I keep the red meat to a few ounces a year. I'm glad your diet is working well for you though.

im not, I dont drink beer, Id be happy to do another 5k or 10k with some ammo on the line ;)
even tho that would only be athletic comparison and not overall health at all :)

Cholesterol is needed for a number of hormones, including testosterone, limiting in your diet can also strongly limit T.

Lipids (good ones, there is a difference.) feed a number of cells in our bodys... guess what most of our brains are made of?
Yep, they key is getting those fats from sources that aren't detrimental. I love avacados and nuts for that.

I'm game to put some ammo on the line, I have loads of it. And I could use more. :D

Also, I think it would be good to not share previous 5k or 10k times before an agreement is reached if it concerns ammo. :)

Processed Meat of any kind, fish/red/white etc is bad. Im 100% with you there.

If you ever want to get into the Science of it. I can give you reading material for weeks to months depending on how quickly you disseminate info.
Long story short, the man who wrote the nutrition guides for the USA had a biased agenda and the congress at the time didnt do its homework or require any backup studies, and now there are too many special interests/corporations in the way for them to say OOPS. Advances in science and a more detailed look at Biochemistry and exactly how our bodies react have shown the rules we've used for so long now in the US are dead wrong, and we have record high diabetes, heart disease, cancers, obesity, etc to show for it. A return even to how our great -grandparents ate fixes most of it.
a slightly less sedentary lifestyle fixes the rest.

Im totally down for Sashimi binges too.

Been to Nori Nori in Sandy Springs? they have a great sushi buffet with some decent AYCE Sashimi, and you can get Scallops at the Hibachi section. Love that place.

Just keep it simple... Water, water, water. Protien shake after a workout. If you want to lose weight... RUN! Just do what you can and try to do more next time. The other one I have heard if running is not your "thing" is to run until your tired and then walk (quickly) until your bored, repeat. Good luck!

I like a shot of creatine before and a glass of whey after workout. Been working good for 14 years. I guess creatine works different for diff. people but it really gets me going. As the others stated....Just STAY WITH IT.

I'm scared to go otp! I usually stick with the midtown sushi bars, and a couple in Decatur.

OP, also keep your workouts short and intense..no need to spend more than 1hr in the gym. You'll gain nothing extra and burn yourself out until you stop going completely. I hit the weights 5 days/wk for 40mins with minimal rest (no more than 45 seconds between sets), followed my 20mins light-moderate cardio.

There is no one size fits all here, what works for me may not do anything for you. You'll have to play around with it until you find out what works for you. About every 6-8 weeks switch routines, exercises, reps, movements, etc. Never do the same thing over and over for months, mix things up and keep your body guessing.

my wife has been doing the smoothie thing for breakfast and has been liking it.

my plan for now is start doing smoothies and/or healthy omelets made with egg whites for breakfast. tuna or chicken salad sandwiches for lunch while im at work, and im going to try and find some healthy snacks i actually like to eat through out my shift.

at home its not so hard to eat healthy, but being in an ambulance for 13 hours sometimes without access to a microwave makes it difficult to eat healthy without eating the same crap all the time.

You should look into the lunchbox from six pack meals. It's a little pricey, but comes with 5 separate meal tupperwares, and the bag to carry. With two side slots that can fit 2 nap gene bottles each easily. And if you start taking pills there is a bin on top, I have been using it forever and it makes packing a whole days worth of meals a lot easier

So, ive started going to the gym.

been running using the C25K (couch to 5k) app and have been liking it. been doing some light weight training on the machines before i start to get into free weights.

any advice from the health gurus on here?

also what supplements do yall use before and after workouts? I could use something to boost my energy before the gym.

Brother.. you're not giving enough information about yourself to set up a correct exercise regiment... and you've not stated a goal.

Alot of very good information from the group, but everyone is different. I'm pushing 50 and work-out Mon, Tue, Thur. Fri and Sat.
Weekdays are power lifting for 40min... right at 100 different crunches for abdominal and 10-12 minutes cardio (mostly running on treadmill) 2min jog..1min sprint.. repeat..
On Saturdays I try to run a 5K at different time intervals...either jog or try to improve a time.

I've gone from 235lb's to 253lb's with no gain in the waist...
I take creatine and protein 30min before workout and glutamine, glycomaize and whey after the workout.. before the burn goes away,
I'm drinking about 3gal of water through the day and piss like a racehorse. My usual intake of food varies since the body is nothing
but a machine.

20+ years in the Navy... having to do the PT tests each year and I'm in better shape after being retired for 7 years than when I was in.

So, you wanna gain mass? get in shape (ripped)? lose weight? or just feel good?

Here is the #1 key.......... MOVE!!.... MOVE!!.... MOVE!!....

Dont eat Carb's after 5PM... dont drink them either...
