Working the 1858 Remington

Excess metal removed from backstrap. Up to .2 in at the rounded base. Grips profiled and fast approaching a grip that fits my hand. Not quite a Bisley but much better than a birds head.

Given the velocity limits and cost of ammunition I selected 45 acp. Similar performance and much reduced cost. I use the plated bullet ammo as it's soft as lead and tons of availability over lead only 45 ACP.

There are warnings of cracking forcing cones with jacketed but I'll be darned if I can find a single validation on the web. But, just to be safe....soft bullets...easy enough to hp or fp loaded plated ammo

Barrel length for me is usually 3.5 in or less....allows comfort while seated and neutral balance on these heavy chunks.

Either way it'll be fun to watch another build.
