Wow this is cool to know

He's wrong about removing ethanol lowers the octane.

It's just the opposite. Without getting too complicated, this is part of the scam of ethanol blended gas.

A gal. of ethanol blend has less energy than a gallon of gasoline because alcohol has less energy than gas per volume unit- this means you get fewer miles per gallon.

Point being the if it takes you one gallon of gasoline to go X miles, it will take 1.? gallon of ethanol blend to go the same number of miles -

So mileage in one way or another, is the way we calculate gas usage, and so the cost of ethanol is not the "bargain" the lobbyists have convinced the regulators it is, because of the cost of producing the extra amount of ethanol to get the same work (milegage).

The kicker about what he is doing is that you start with a gallon of 10% ethanol blend, and remove all the ethanol, you now have .9 (9 tenths) gallon of gas, which will not take you as far as the 1 gallon of blend.

So if you are comparing mileage, you have to make sure you have 1 gal. of gas vs. 1 gal of blend.

BTW what he is doing demonstrates why you should keep a boat tank empty or full - half full, and it will condense water between uses, the water pulls out the ethanol, goes to the bottom of the tank where the pickup is, then straight to your motor to destroy all the rubber parts.
